Fighting is one of the hardest things to RP out, even for me 7-8 years later! Recently though, I have found a few tips to it, and these tips will share them with you, well, this won't give you a perfect fighting post, but they are a few pointers to hopefully help you to RP better fights, and to cause a little less confusion!
That's it for now, will probably add more tips as I think them up. For now, hope these tips helped!
- 1. Practice, practice, practice! The best way to get better at RP'ing fights is to have practice fights! Though everyone may not want to use this, since I myself would rather RP an adventure out of some sort or use NPC's that no one cares about, but I found the best way to get better is to actually do it and go back and read it.
- 2. Be descriptive! Putting 'Bob puts up his fists' can actually confuse the other person. Did he put him up to his chest or to his face---------------------------------------------Inventory---------------------------------------------A good thing to put would be 'Bob bent his knees slightly and put his left fist up next to his eye and his right fist up by his jaw.' This shows where defenses are and also shows where weak points are
- 3. Any type of damage will count as a hit. This is technically a loop-hole in the 'don't dodge every attack' rule but here is an example to make things make more sense: 'John shoots at Bob as Bob is running, Bob trips and falls, busting his nose on the ground but dodging the bullet.' Due to Bob tripping and running and busting his nose on the ground when he fell, that is technically counted as a hit. Be creative, use this to your advantage! But do take minor hits from your attacker sometimes.
- 4. Read posts carefully to look for openings As stated back in tip number 2, Bob had his fists up to his face, but left his bottom half open. This leaves his opponent John open to attack him in the gut...or lower XD
- 5. Use natural defenses! Star warriors are squishy, Galaxy Knights have armor, and humans will hunch a little, making their gut more inward and put their fists up to their face, with their face tilted downward slightly, making things harder to hit, wolves will hunker down with ears back and head lowered to protect their vital areas such as neck and chest and stomach. Use these to your advantage, while it won't get you unharmed, you may not get major wounds.
